Large Turnout at Swann Galleries Reception to Support the Late Senator Chuck Allen, III

Held Feb. 12, 2009 over 100 persons enjoyed the hors'deouvres and wine at Swann Galleries Auction House while viewing the 169 lots of artwork to be sold Feb. 17th. Seven works were donated by emerging contemporary African and African American artists to benefit the Senator Chuck Allen III Scholarship Fund, a fund aiding students of color in the tri-state area who will study accounting, law and public and urban policy as the late Chuck Allen did having served 26 years in New Haven, CT. and CT. state wide politics. Allen died Feb. 2008 after a long battle with cancer, the memorial scholarship attempts to preserves his civic legacy while inspiring college bound youth.
 
The Senator Chuck Allen, III Scholarship Fund will have seven contemporary artworks sold at Swann Galleries in New York City as part of its general African American Fine Art auction on February 17, 2009. Swann Auction Galleries launched a new department devoted to African-American Fine Art in 2007. It is the world's only major auction house which conducts regular sales of this material. It has established benchmarks for works by important artists.

The February 17, 2009 African American Fine Art sale includes 160 lots. Seven of those lots are works donated by Nayland Blake, Pat Coffie, Arnold Kemp, Kalup Linzy, Jacolby Satterwhite, Dana Shea, and Xaviera Simmons and their respective galleries to solely benefit the SCAIII Scholarship Fund. The exhibition is open for public viewing Wednesday, February 11th-Friday February 13th, 10am to 6pm; Saturday, February 14th, 10am to 4pm; Monday, February 16th, 10am to 6pm, and Tuesday, February 17th, 10am to noon. The auction will be held on Tuesday, February 17th at 1:30pm.

Chuck Allen III, a trained CPA with an MPA from NYU was a special assistant to Mayor De Stefano and former alderman and state senator from New Hallville section of NewHaven, Ct. .He championed socially conscious urban development and renewal projects. Allen passed away in February 2008 after a five and half year battle with kidney cancer. The scholarship was set up in March 2008 to preserve his civic legacy. He served in public political life in New Haven, Ct. for over 26 years and served on a myriad of boards overseeing and initiating several housing and community projects in New Haven, Ct. and state-wide.

The scholarship will aid minority students studying law, accounting, public and urban policy and management in NY, CT and NJ.
